The Light 03:57
For three weeks this lights my life Salt, sea and rocks my home Given up the easy life A sentence self-imposed We take the place of the other keepers Relief awash on their faces Three drained shells of men Stumble to the boat One says to me as he passes by “This Chicken Rock is surely cursed” My fellow keepers laugh away But his face doesn’t seem to joke I walk to my bedroom And there stand my coffin bed I get a taste of claustrophobia A bitter pill inside my mouth And now we sit, drink and eat Try to forget where we are One man young the other old Sitting on my left and right The young a friend from years gone by The old a man who’s seen it all He quickly leaves to tend the light The only reason why we’re here The Light, Shining through the night The Light, Shining through the night

White Water 03:26
Up the light I see the dark Across the Irish Sea Racing in Roaring cries Crashing through the sky The men arrive To watch the storm Share uneasy looks We grab a smoke Drift away As the storm begins to hit Sea is heaving Waves are crashing Faces turning white Hands are shaking Confidence breaking And there ain’t no sign of shore Speaking to The eldest keeper He’s never seen a storm like this Days pass and pass With no rest As the light gets battered on Trapped inside This tiny world Makes you feel on edge The only thing To keeps me sane Tobacco cigarettes Sea is heaving Waves are crashing Faces turning white Hands are shaking Confidence breaking And there ain’t no sign of shore

Bleak 08:54
Endless is my work Atop of this light It seems like years Till we see our family back home The boat was meant to come And pick us up today But the storm keeps raging on More weeks to work away Food and water is enough We’ve weeks to keep us fed But the tobaccos been smoked up Withdrawal affects us all I can see the men grow weak Their faces turn away Sapping of the strength Passing of the day The crashing of the waves Wash away my hope And the endless wind Erodes my soul Passing on the torch The youngest Keeper walks on through Waves away my hand As he passes by No expression on his face Turned a deathly pale Staring at the waves As they come crashing in I try to speak to him Ask him how he feels No matter how I try He doesn’t speak Usually we talk Laugh and joke away So I leave to go to bed My friends not here tonight The crashing of the waves Wash away my hope And the endless wind Erodes my soul
4.
As I wake to see my friends blank face His eyes staring deep inside my soul His arms are cold his hands like ice Limp lifeless lying on the floor I begin to wonder if I’m still asleep Some kind of crazy nightmare taken hold But the older keeper brings me back And he confirms my worst fear We pick him up, take him down the stair To the only place, we can think Down to the depths, of the light Place him in the chill, Close the door No time to mourn, no time to grieve The light is dying too, It must be saved One man’s life means so little Compared to the souls out on the sea
5.
Troubled my thoughts, laboured, is my head Two men work, a three men, shift all day There’s no sleep, constantly, awake There’s no rest, eyes are, failing me Caffeine tea, blast of, icy wind Keep my mind, alert, and awake Anything, to keep, sleep away Anything, to keep, sleep at bay The storm keeps, battering, the light Wave and wave beat, hope of rescue away Endless work, shackled, to the light Endless wait, rescue, boat is late Tap my coat, to feel a, hidden fag One last smoke, in case I start turning, mad Give me strength, Mind and soul, weakening Give me strength; Help me, through the night Sea is heaving Waves are crashing Faces turning white Hands are shaking Confidence breaking And there ain’t no sign of shore Lightning flash, turning, of the light Giving birth to, shadows, just out of sight Mind plays tricks, sense start to lie Mind plays tricks, do spirits really die? Has my friend, come back to, punish me I could have stayed, saved him, from himself In the dark, waiting, for revenge In the dark, feeling, on the edge Freezing arms, reaching, behind my back Icy Fingers, clutching, at my neck Turning round, spectre, disappears Turning round, it’s all, in my mind Reaching for, sanity’s, final puff The old man appears, relieves me from my work Saving me, Safety, from my mind Saving me, safety, of my sleep
6.
I wake another day to see, nothings moved, still the same Praying for the winds to change Head to the kitchen for some food, walk in to see the old man Sitting swearing at the storm His eyes wild his face contorts, screaming running, up the light I give chase as he runs I try to control him, but he just breaks free And runs for the outer rail He tries to take a leap, but he slips and falls Out cold in the rain Mind gives up tryin to tell between Dreaming and consciousness Feeling stuck between life and death Lines blurring black and white Dragging him inside, Limp dead weight, soaking wet Find my last cigarette When he comes to, light it up, make him smoke Try return some sense to him The smoke calms him down, only for a moment Tears streaming down his face Sits, shakes, takes a drag, He stares me in the eyes Tries to mutter out some words “Darkness chasing round the room, shadows waiting for a fall” The Paranoia’s taken hold Mind gives up tryin to tell between Dreaming and consciousness Feeling stuck between life and death Lines blurring black and white Feel so alone on top this rock Rescue just feels so far away Feel so alone on top this rock Rescue just feels so far away Mind gives up tryin to tell between Dreaming and consciousness Feeling stuck between life and death Lines blurring black and white

Relief 07:51
Something’s passed A change in the air Rhythmic pounding Has died away Deafening, Silence Rings in my ears Could this be, the end Can I go home? Jump out of bed, Run up the stairs 2 steps at a time The anticipation, fragile hope Rise with each stair And from the top, I can see The waves have ceased The clouds have gone, the wind has left And I can see the shore After all that I’ve been through, it might be over Rescue might just come today Days turned to weeks; this nightmare didn’t want to end Rescue might just come today I rush to tell the other keeper And wake him from his sleep The storm has passed And we can go home, go home He just stares right through me Doesn’t seem to care For a second I thought the old man Might still be there I can see, the relief boat coming I can see, my freedom I can see, the relief boat coming I can see, my freedom The men come ashore With a smile and a hand shake They’ve no idea Just what we’ve seen Where do you start? To explain what’s happened Ones mans died The others lost his mind So I lead them To the our fallen keeper They slowly realise The hell we’ve lived through And as we leave And pass on the torch 3 more men Brave life on the rock I can’t feel Any sympathy I’m just glad To be safe and free
