For three weeks this lights my life
Salt, sea and rocks my home
Given up the easy life
A sentence self-imposed

We take the place of the other keepers
Relief awash on their faces
Three drained shells of men
Stumble to the boat

One says to me as he passes by
“This Chicken Rock is surely cursed”
My fellow keepers laugh away
But his face doesn’t seem to joke

I walk to my bedroom
And there stand my coffin bed
I get a taste of claustrophobia
A bitter pill inside my mouth

And now we sit, drink and eat
Try to forget where we are
One man young the other old
Sitting on my left and right

The young a friend from years gone by
The old a man who’s seen it all
He quickly leaves to tend the light
The only reason why we’re here
